FedEx to invest $200m in over 200 communities by 2020 as part of FedEx Cares

FedEx has announced that it will invest $200 million in more than 200 communities by 2020 as part of its new global giving platform FedEx Cares as it has increased its corporate giving budget by 35% for the fiscal year 2016.

“FedEx and our team members have a long history of supporting the communities where we live and work,” Patrick Fitzgerald, senior vice president, FedEx Integrated Marketing Communications, said. “This new strategy builds on that heritage and takes it to the next level by focusing on ways we can use our operational strength and business expertise to address social challenges.”

As part of the $200 million investment, FedEx will spend $50 million on “Delivering for Good” with the company using its global network to deliver resources where they are needed most in times of disaster and for special shipments.

Besides “Delivering for Good”, the company will focus on four other strategic pillars to strengthen communities. One of these is “Sustainable Transportation” as part of which it will develop “responsible” and “resourceful” shipping solutions. Another core idea is called “Employment Pathways” providing pathways to success for young adults in underserved populations.

The fourth strategic focus of FedEx Cares is “Road Safety” with FedEx applying its expertise and global reach to protect pedestrians and make roads safer.

The fifth strategic goal is “Global Entrepreneurship” as part of which FedEx will focus on supporting women and minority-owned small businesses and continuing to empower the next generation of entrepreneurs, helping them access new markets and grow.

“This company giving platform is complemented by FedEx team members who dedicate countless volunteer hours and identify local community investments based on individual needs in each market,” FedEx Corp. added.

In 2015, more than 17,000 FedEx team members took part in FedEx Cares Week, which is dedicated to service projects in the USA and regions that FedEx serves around the globe.
