Cleveron, Keba and Chinese firm Hivebox have been selected to supply parcel lockers to Omniva under five-year contracts worth a total of €20 million.
The Estonian postal group said today that it has chosen the three suppliers after an international tender and will invest more than €20 million in the expansion of its Baltic parcel machine network within the next five years.
The contracts will be concluded with a term of five years, during which Omniva will acquire new parcel machines for Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, thereby significantly expanding the parcel machine network of the company. Currently, Omniva has 276 parcel machines in more than 120 cities across the Baltic region, making it the biggest parcel machine network in the area.
According to Ansi Arumeel, Member of the Management Board of Omniva, the company plans to diversify its network with different types of machines and technologies to provide people with a convenient service that is faster and closer to them.
“All trends and research in the parcels area show that parcel machines are the preferred way of sending and receiving parcels in the Baltic region. Our task is to make parcel machines as easily accessible as possible,” he explained.
Arumeel added that choosing three tenderers is the best option to further improve the network. “We will conclude contracts with three world-class suppliers of parcel machines to allow us flexibility and capability in expanding our parcel machine network to areas we have not reached yet. Some machines will certainly be unlike the rest in the area.”
Additionally, customers can expect a larger variety in the sizes of parcel machines. “Many settlements have reached out to us saying that they are very interested in having a parcel machine but that their parcel volumes are too small for a large parcel machine. We will hopefully have solutions for them shortly,” he added.
This autumn, Omniva will install extra lockers to many existing parcel machines. The main reason for the expansion is the rapid development of e-commerce. “The growth of e-commerce, cross-border e-commerce in particular, has been so fast that several parcel machines are already too small for the increased volumes,” Arumeel said. ‘This is why 45 parcel machines in Estonia will have more lockers.”
