Spanish express delivery courier NACEX has opened the country’s largest cross-docking platform for a decade and invested in other new facilities to increase capacity ahead of the 2018 peak season.
NACEX opened its new branch at Coslada, which lies close to Madrid’s international airport and has direct access to several major national motorways, earlier this month. Built on a plot exceeding 23,000 sqm, it is the largest cross-docking platform built in Spain in the last 10 years, according to the company.
The premises have a 12,140 sqm warehouse for sorting and distribution, and a 1,500 sqm office building. There are 114 docks, 104 for vans and 10 for trucks, enabling over 110 vehicles to be loaded and unloaded at the same time.
The Coslada facility can process up to 32,000 parcels an hour through an automated sorting system, and features the latest technology for monitoring, recording and doing security checks on packages. There are also temperature-controlled areas for pharma products.
Manuel Orihuela, NACEX’s Deputy General Manager, said: “We couldn’t be any prouder and more satisfied with the results obtained with the new distribution platform. At NACEX we are fully committed to excellence, client satisfaction and top-level premises. The latest technology innovations, like those in Coslada, allow us to consolidate our position as one of most technologically advanced parcel and express courier firms in Spain.”
In October, NACEX expanded its presence in the Canary Islands with a new branch close to Las Palmas international airport on Gran Canaria. The company can process up to 3,500 packages an hour and handle cool products at the new premises.
Overall, NACEX, with more than 2,000 staff and over 1,500 vehicles, operates a network of 31 branches and over 300 franchises in Spain, Portugal and Andorra. It is also developing its B2C services through a parcel shop network that has been extended to more than 900 pick-up and delivery points across Spain. The company increased deliveries through the NACEX.Shop network by 7.4% last year.
Parent company Logista Group does not disclose NACEX results separately but consolidates them into its ‘Iberia Transport’ business operations, which also include temperature-controlled transport firm Integra2 and trucking company Logesta. In the year ending September 2018, Logista’s Iberia Transport business increased external revenues by 7.2% to €253 million.
Logista commented that Nacex generated double-digit growth, ahead of overall market growth, thanks to increases in online sales as well as temperature-controlled transportation during the business year.
