PostNL has announced that construction has begun on a new parcel sorting centre at a business park in Dordrecht, in the western region of the Netherlands.
“Consumers have totally embraced the ease of online shopping. Many online stores choose PostNL to sort and deliver their parcels, of which we're very proud. In the coming year, PostNL will open three new parcel sorting centres in the Netherlands, to optimally arrange the delivery process in the growing market for parcel deliveries, including this sustainable building in Dordrecht,” the Dutch postal utility's director, Strategy Parcels, Coen Schut, explained.
PostNL is “investing in the most sustainable materials, the installation of solar panels, and waste heat recovery systems. In addition, the building will not use gas. Thus, this building will be one of the most sustainable logistics buildings”.
The new facility will lead to the creation of around 400 jobs and is scheduled to open in August 2019 and deliver parcels to the Dordrecht and Zwijndrecht region from there.
It will be part of a new network that currently consists of a total of 22 parcel sorting centres in the Netherlands and six locations in Belgium.
PostNL said that from these locations, the parcel deliverers head out, seven days a week, to deliver parcels everywhere in the Netherlands and in Belgium.
PostNL will open three new parcel sorting centres in the Netherlands in 2019, including the one in Dordrecht.
Last month, PostNL has opened a new parcel sorting centre in Venlo, in the south-east of the Netherlands near the German border. It covers 7,700 sqm and has the capacity to sort between 80,000 and 120,000 parcels daily.
It opened another parcel sorting centre opened in Apeldoorn, in the centre of the country, in August this year.
