UPS offers consumers incentives for non-home deliveries

UPS Access Point

UPS is offering US consumers financial incentives to have their holiday packages delivered to a UPS Access Point in a bid to steer some B2C peak flows away from home deliveries.

The company yesterday launched a ‘holiday rewards’ programme offering consumers rewards valued at up to $20 if they decide to use an alternative delivery point, such as a UPS Store, retail partner or parcel locker, as their alternative delivery address during the holiday season.

There are now nearly 9,000 UPS Access Points across the US, including about 5,000 UPS Stores (franchise retailers offering diverse business services, including shipping), local shops (such as delis, dry cleaners and flower shops) as well as a number of lockers.

To participate in the rewards programme, consumers must be enrolled in the free UPS My Choice service, which enables more than 52 million current members worldwide to manage their deliveries. To begin earning rewards, members should log in and select the most convenient UPS Access Point location as their preferred alternate delivery location. They can decide whether to select the location for the initial delivery or as the alternative if the initial home delivery fails.

Rewards are then offered for the first, third and fifth eligible packages delivered to a UPS Access Point location via a customer’s UPS My Choice preference. The first package earns one free month of UPS My Choice Premium membership, which offers upgraded delivery options.

On the third package, members will earn a $5 reward. The fifth package receives an additional $5 reward, plus two additional months of UPS My Choice Premium membership. The three months of membership are valued at $10.

The $10 cash reward, which is stored in the member’s UPS My Choice account, has to be exchanged for a Target eGiftCard by January 11, 2019. This can be used for online or store purchases, including on the UPS My Choice Deals site.

Kevin Warren, UPS’s chief marketing officer, commented: “UPS understands consumers need choice, control and convenience in the delivery process more than ever. With the UPS Access Point network, they get that, plus the peace of mind of not having to worry about missed deliveries, package security or hiding that must-have present until the big day.”
