DHL Parcel has increased consumer parcel prices in Germany for the first time in five years as part of its broader pricing adjustments.
The cost of sending domestic parcels weighing up to 5 kg from the group’s retail outlets went up by €0.50 – or more than 7% – from €6.99 to €7.49 on January 1. The price for parcels weighing up to 5 kg was last adjusted in 2014 and has remained the same ever since.
However, online franked parcels weighing up to 5 kg still cost the lower rate of €5.99. In addition, all other prices for parcels and small packages, including prices for online pre-franked items, also remain unchanged. Effective from January 1, 2019, bulky goods as well as roll-shaped and COD items will be subject to VAT.
DHL Parcel Germany is in the midst of a broader price adjustment designed to raise revenues to compensate for rising costs. It will raise prices for business customers in 2019 more strongly than in recent years. Other parcel carriers in Germany, including Hermes, DPD and GLS, have also announced price increases for this year.
