Posten Norge (Norway Post) is delivering business packages in the centre of Oslo emissions-free by using electric vans from Chinese manufacturer SAIC Maxus.
Since earlier this month, 1,200 business customers within the capital’s Ring 1 have about 11,000 packages delivered completely emissions-free every week.
In the area, Posten and Bring have replaced 22 fossil fuel vehicles with electric vans and Paxster vehicles, thereby reducing the annual consumption of diesel by 42,000 litres. In total, a reduction of 105 tonnes of CO2 per year is expected.
“Norway Post's environmental ambition is that we will use only renewable energy sources in our buildings and vehicles by 2025. We are now working to establish emission-free parcel delivery in other cities,” said CEO Tone Wille.
To achieve these goals, the company is developing and testing alternative vehicles in collaboration with vehicle manufacturers.
According to Posten, the company was the first in the Nordic countries to test the Chinese electric van from Maxus. A total of 22 vehicles have been sent to Norway, and 18 of them will be put into operation in Oslo.
Only last year, Posten Norge was also the first in the country to deploy electric vans from Volkswagen.
