Amazon launches ‘Amazon Flex’ delivery in Australia

Amazon Flex delivery in Australia

Amazon has today announced the launch of Amazon Flex in Sydney and Melbourne, calling it “an innovative delivery service that offers individuals the opportunity to be their own boss and earn extra money in their free time delivering Amazon packages to customers.”

Amazon Flex will supplement Amazon’s delivery capacity in the two Australian cities and speed up deliveries as customer demand continues to grow, the online retailer added.

Interested delivery partners in Sydney and Melbourne, with their own vehicle, can sign-up, choose delivery blocks that fit their schedule, and deliver packages using the Amazon Flex app. Delivery blocks are an estimated four hours, during which delivery partners collect their packages from pick up points in Sydney and Melbourne and deliver them to customers.

“Amazon Flex puts delivery partners in the driver’s seat, enabling them to earn extra money with the flexibility to choose their own schedule. With visibility of how much they will be paid for a block before they accept it, delivery partners ensure their time on the road is well spent,” explained Craig Fuller, director of Operations, Amazon Australia.

“We are always looking at new ways to deliver convenience to customers. As customer demand and delivery needs continue to grow in Australia, Amazon Flex gives us the agility to supplement the work we do with our existing carrier partners so we can speed up delivery times and respond to peaks in demand……….Amazon Flex give us the flexibility over time to unlock customer delivery benefits we haven’t even thought of yet.”

The launch is the online retailer’s latest move to expand its logistics capabilities in the country. At the end of last year, Amazon introduced Amazon Hub, a new network of parcel pickup points, to Australian customers, and opened a fulfilment centre in Perth.

The new parcel pickup points in Australia are designed to offer customers more choice and convenience with access to hundreds of Amazon Hub locations rising to several thousand in 2020.

Commenting on the new fulfilment centre in Perth, Fuller said; “This expansion represents the investment and development of our growth strategy in Australia, following a steady and progressive increase in customer demand.

"This new facility builds on the capabilities of our first two fulfilment centres in Melbourne and Sydney, allowing us to continue to fulfil our commitment to fast and reliable deliveries for customers across the country. We strongly believe that this further investment will benefit both customers and the local economy and give Western Australian customers quicker delivery of high demand items."

Amazon.com.au launched in Australia in December 2017 and now offers customers 125 million products across 29 different categories including Amazon devices.
