PostNL has started replacing all its 1,000 petrol scooters with some 600 larger-capacity electric three-wheel scooters to further reduce emissions and improve delivery efficiency in rural areas.
The sustainable e-scooters make a direct contribution to PostNL’s sustainability targets and will eventually save 657 tonnes of CO2 annually, according to the company.
They will also enable the postal deliverers who drive them to pick up and deliver more mail. In the countryside and in rural areas, PostNL uses scooters to deliver the mail because of the large distances needing to be covered.
In addition, the new scooters are also safer because they’re more stable and are better for workers. The ergonomic seat ensures that postal deliverers can sit more comfortably than on a regular scooter.
PostNL expects to have replaced all its petrol scooters with the electric three-wheel scooters by mid-2021. The company aims to achieve emissions-free delivery in the last mile from 2030.
