Geek+ automates Hongkong Post and Rhenus Logistics sites

Geek+ robot sorts Hongkong Post parcels

Warehouse robotics firm Geek+ has landed new contracts with Hongkong Post and Rhenus Logistics, as it continues to automate sorting and fulfilment hubs around the world and improve efficiency and accuracy for its customers.

Geek+ has provided Hongkong Post with its first robotic package sorting system for the post’s central mail centre. Sorting and moving robots are now enabling Hongkong Post to simplify overall workflow and achieve a more efficient and accurate sorting process in comparison to a traditional, more labour intensive, manual sorting process.

According to Geek+, the sorting capacity of the robotic system can reach up to 1,000 packets per hour, enhancing efficiency and maximizing output.

“The robotics system with smart technology assists in sorting mail packages to individual delivery points throughout the territory, enabling more efficient and flexible postal operations. We seek to leverage robotics technologies to meet the booming of e-commerce opportunities,” said Clare Chiu, General Manager (Management Services) at Hongkong Post.

Rhenus contract

In Switzerland, meanwhile, Geek+ has implemented its goods-to-person technology at Rhenus Logistics’ warehouse in Basel. The P800 AMR system is a goods-to-person self-driving shelf system. The AMR robot selects the shelf with the demanded products and drives it to the pick workstations where the employees can take out the items.

This first installation in Basel consists of 13,320 shelf spaces. The first two customers who will benefit from the new AMR installation are Waldmeier and Max Bersinger. The transfer of the products of these two leading toy wholesalers is in full swing, Geek+ noted.

Philipp Bittner, COO at Rhenus Logistics in Switzerland, added: “After receiving the positive feedback from our colleagues in Hong Kong, it was very easy for us to follow suit. The autonomous mobile robots [AMRs] not only optimize our processes but also help us to reduce energy consumption.”

Strong partnership

Geek+ has already worked closely with the Rhenus Group in Hong Kong. Rhenus Warehousing Solutions, for example, used intelligent AMR units from Geek+ as a goods-to-person solution in an initial joint project in 2021. In July this year Rhenus and Geek+ also announced that they will deploy AMRs at the Rhenus Innovation Hub in Hong Kong.

Rhenus and Geek+ have plans to further strengthen their partnership by embarking on additional projects aimed at automating warehouses across the globe in the upcoming years. The next scheduled venture is set to take place in Switzerland in 2024.

European growth

In 2022, Geek+ deployed more than 3,000 robots in Europe. The company first entered the European market in 2019, and its expansion has rapidly accelerated since then, being present in over 16 countries with a deployed fleet that continues to grow. In 2023, the firm has won contracts with Next, Radial, CEVA Logistics and DB Schenker in Europe.
