Geekplus signs new deal with Logistex to enhance warehouse automation

A Geek+ system in the UPS Velocity warehouse

Mobile robotics firm Geekplus has announced a new partnership with Logistex, a provider of warehouse automation solutions, to offer clients across the UK a suite of integrated automated technologies to streamline fulfilment and maximise productivity amid growing e-commerce demand.

Logistex clients can now utilize the Geekplus Shelf-to-Person, smart sorting and RoboShuttle robotic solutions within their warehouses. Clients can also access the Geekplus Robot Management System, Warehouse Execution System, Warehouse Management System, and simulation software platforms.

According to Geekplus, this end-to-end automation ecosystem enables clients to optimize their operations, reduce labour costs, and increase fulfilment capacity while maintaining a high level of accuracy and reliability.

“Uniting expertise”

Meanwhile, Logistex provides automated materials handling and software solutions for warehousing operations. The firm specialises in storage and retrieval, order forwarding, robotics, picking and sortation systems.

“The partnership will unite our solution expertise and market knowledge,” said Tony Gruber, Managing Director of Logistex. “It’s about the collective strength to innovate and address the evolving needs of the logistics landscape. Together, we can enable more businesses to attain greater efficiency and competitiveness.”

Simon Houghton, sales director, UKI & ME at Geekplus, added: “We see this partnership with Logistex not just as a collaboration, but a fusion of visions and aspirations. Together, our combined strengths will write a new chapter of innovation and growth for the UK logistics industry.”

UPS partnership

Geekplus’s Shelf-to-Person solution was recently deployed in UPS’s new US$79 million state-of-the-art Velocity warehouse near Louisville, Kentucky, which opened in November. The hub currently uses 700 bots, with plans to roll out more than 3,000 by the end of 2024 to speed up logistics and deliveries in the US.

Geekplus outfitted the UPS Supply Chain Solutions’ Velocity warehouse with its Geekplus Shelf-to-Person PopPick – an all-in-one robotic solution for logistics which handles totes, racks, and pallets, and inbound, storage, picking and outbound.

With the help of this solution, UPS SCS employees can process 350,000 items per day, a 400% increase in productivity over warehouses that don’t use automation.

The Geekplus Shelf-to-Person PopPick solution is also a foundational component of the UPS SCS facility in Ontario, California. The addition of Geekplus robots at this second site will help UPS SCS continue to optimize its picking and fulfilment operations over the coming years.

Counting the new Velocity facility and the Onatario hub, UPS SCS now has more than 1,000 Geekplus robots operating in its facilities across North America to help meet demand from the e-commerce market. UPS uses the Geekplus Shelf-to-Person technology to improve storage by 30% when compared to traditional facilities.
