PostNord improved profits significantly last quarter despite lower sales thanks to parcels growth and cost reductions across its markets.
The Nordic postal group’s net sales fell by 4% to SEK 10.02 billion in October – December 2024 but operating income (EBIT) tripled to SEK 385 million (vs SEK 124 million) while adjusted operating income (adjusted EBIT) rose to SEK 498 million (vs SEK 328 million).
Parcel volumes in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland and other markets increased by 6%, compared to a 4% fall in the final quarter of 2023, while the mail volume decline accelerated to -19% from -12% one year earlier.
2024 results
For 2024 as a whole, PostNord’s net sales dropped by 3% to SEK 37.8 billion as parcel volumes increased by 1% and mail volumes decreased by -15%. But operating income (EBIT) improved dramatically to a profit of SEK 135 million from an SEK 564 million loss one year earlier. Adjusted operating income (adjusted EBIT) nearly doubled to SEK 961 million (vs SEK 500 million).
