Geopost delivered a stable 2024 despite tough market conditions, with volumes and revenue up on 2023 as the group’s Portugese and Polish markets led the way with strong growth, while its OOH, cross border and food segments continued to perform well.
Speaking during the annual results press conference, Yves Delmas, CEO at Geopost, said that 2024 was shaped by “geopolitical uncertainty” and high wage costs, which look set to continue during the year ahead, but recovering economies and consumer spending, GDP growth and stable inflation rates all point to a more positive 2025.
The release of Geopost’s 2024 figures follow the release of the La Poste Groupe’s (Geopost’s parent company) 2024 report late last month, which revealed that consolidated revenue increased by +1.5% to €34,569 million and operating profit improved by more than 75% to €2,950 million.
Key Geopost 2024 figures
Despite the challenging environment in 2024, Geopost’s volumes grew by 2.3% worldwide to 2.1 billion, or 80 million parcels per day. Turnover, meanwhile, increased by 1% to €15.8 billion, while the group’s core express parcel business grew faster at 1.7% to €13.2 billion.
In terms of profitability, Geopost’s EBIT grew from €330 million in 2023 to €614 million in 2024 – up 86%. However, 2023 was impacted by non-recurring events. The restated figure, removing these events, saw EBIT decline by 11%, reflecting the unfavourable macro-economic environment.
The group also invested €402 million in 2024 into expanding its sorting capacities, strengthening its digital footprint, deploying more parcel lockers, and accelerating its fleet electrification. CEP-Research will report more on these initiatives later this week.
In terms of Geopost’s carbon performance, which is now reported at the same time as the financial results, the group reduced its global carbon footprint by 5.4% in 2024 in absolute terms. “This was the third year in a row that we have reduced our global carbon footprint,” said Jean-Claude Sonet, Executive Vice President in charge of Marketing, Communication and Sustainability at Geopost. “We are fully in line with our 2040 net zero commitment.”
