PostNord to end letter deliveries in digital Denmark

Parcels only in future for PostNord in Denmark (Source: PostNord)

PostNord has taken a historic and momentous decision to stop delivering letters in highly digital Denmark from 2026, resulting in 1,500 job losses, in response to a massive 90% mail volume decline over the past 25 years and will focus on a parcels-only future instead.

The Nordic group – which has delivered the post to Danes for 400 years – is believed to be the first European postal operator to take the radical step of abandoning its roots in letters as volumes tumble worldwide due to digital substitution.

Announcing the move yesterday (March 6), the company wrote: “At PostNord we adapt to the situation on the Danish letter market. We now take the next step to build a strong PostNord for the future. As from 2026, PostNord will stop handling letters in Denmark and focus on becoming the Danes’ favourite parcel delivery service.”
