Postal operators have to transform their business model, modernise pricing and improve customer experience all at the same time, according to speakers at the Leaders In Logistics Summit in Berlin last week.

That was the key message from a panel discussion between Chris Peeters, CEO of bpost group, Ivana Vrviščar, a member of the Executive Management at Pošta Slovenije, Nicolas Nemorin, Director of Pricing Excellence & Customer Success Management at Open Pricer, and Isaac Arevalo, Director of Fulfillment and Distribution EMEA for health drink company AG1.

Transformation time

According to Peeters, the postal sector is currently “in middle of a transformation” from its legacy mail business into parcel and logistics, where carriers become part of the overall retail experience for customers.

For bpost, the acquisition of French contract logistics company Staci fits into this picture, he stressed. “We are moving into 3PL because delivering integrated services is what postal operators will become,” he predicted.
