DHL Group has opened its “largest and most modern” mail centre in Munich, Germany, integrating both letter and parcel sorting after a “low three-digit million euro” investment in the first facility of this kind for more than 30 years.

The new centre, located in Germering, adjacent to the city of Munich, combines DHL’s previous mail centres in Munich and Starnberg and covers an area of 66,000 sqm. The facility will handle approximately two million items per day, including 33,000 parcels, thanks to state-of-the-art sorting technology.

It was officially opened yesterday (March 18) by Bavarian premier Markus Söder and company officials.
