FedEx under fire for outsourcing US pilot jobs

FedEx is facing criticism from the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA) over the potential outsourcing of US pilot jobs in Europe to foreign contractors, with key routes “vanishing from mainline operations.”

The main routes in question, according to the FedEx Master Executive Council (MEC), represented by ALPA, are the European intra-theater 757 routes, once flown by FedEx ALPA pilots, which have gradually been removed from flying schedules and in April “outsourced entirely to foreign contractors,” MEC noted.

In a statement to CEP-Research, a FedEx spokesperson did not confirm the claims, but did reveal that some intra-European markets are now served with smaller aircraft to more efficiently accommodate current demand.

However, the spokesperson stressed that, overall, “international flight hours for FedEx pilots are up year over year.”
