The US Postal Service has released more details on its updated service standards, which aim to save the postal operator billions over the next decade, with new online tools and a fact sheet available to help customers prepare for the changes.
USPS announced its new refined service standards earlier this month, revealing that from April the adjustments will impact its First-Class Mail, Periodicals, Marketing Mail, Package Services, USPS Ground Advantage, Priority Mail, and Priority Mail Express.
The new service standards leave more than 80% of market dominate volume unchanged, while some services will become faster, such as package services, and others, including a portion of First-Class Mail, will be slower, but still within the five-day service standard day range, USPS noted.
According to the post, the refinements are being made to help improve delivery reliability nationwide, while cutting transportation, mail and package processing and real estate costs by at least US$36 billion over the next 10 years.
