Italian parcel firm BRT has contained a Covid-19 outbreak at its Bologna hub and is now operating normally again.
About 113 workers at the site at Roveri, an industrial zone east of Bologna, as well as family members and friends, tested positive for coronavirus in late June, according to Italian media reports.
BRT said in a website post that “the situation in the Bologna Roveri warehouse is under control” following virus tests and extensive cleaning measures. The facility “remains operational, albeit in a reduced form… We expect to be up to speed from the week of 06/07/20”.
The company stressed that “safety is a priority” and that it had undertaken special health protection measures since the start of the Covid-19 outbreak, including signature-free parcel deliveries.
“During the lockdown we never stopped to guarantee an essential service to the country, thanks to the commitment of our drivers, warehouse operators and employees, who are also demonstrating all the values of a large company in this challenge,” it underlined.
BRT is the largest parcels carrier in Italy with revenues of €1.4 billion in 2018. The Bologna-based company delivers about 235 million parcels a year through a nationwide network of 190 branches. DPDgroup increased its 37% stake in the company, a long-standing DPD partner, to a controlling 85% in January this year.
