FedEx Express expands in Colombia and Mexico

FedEx B767

FedEx Express has expanded its operations in Latin America with an additional flight to Colombia and an enlarged presence in northern Mexico.

The express transport giant has added a sixth weekly B767 flight between Miami and the Colombian cities of Bogotá and Medellín to provide additional capacity for manufacturers and exporters during the 2020 peak season and as e-commerce volumes soar this year.

The additional flight will strengthen the competitive advantages of Colombian companies by connecting them to more international markets, especially for perishable products such as flowers and coffee, according to the company.

"We are very pleased to be able to offer our customers in Colombia the additional capacity they require during this critical time of year," said Rakesh Shalia, Vice President of Marketing and Communications for FedEx Express Latin America and the Caribbean. "With stops in both Bogotá and Medellín, we can help customers deliver to all zip codes in the United States, as well as more than 220 countries and territories around the world through our FedEx network."

Expansion in northern Mexico

Meanwhile, in Mexico, FedEx Express has expanded its station in the northern city of Querétaro to 6,633 sqm, which is an operational capacity increase of 265%.

From there, the company operates 110 routes through the state of Querétaro. In addition, it can now optimise processes and re-despatch shipments in the nearby states of Guanajuato, San Luis Potosí, Aguascalientes, Jalisco, Zacatecas and State of Mexico.

The investment reinforces Querétaro’s ambition to become an important logistics hub for Mexico.

“At FedEx Express, we reaffirm our commitment to the development of Mexico with the expansion of the station in the city of Querétaro, which will strengthen our value proposition in the area and open new paths of international growth for small and medium-sized companies with the objective of boosting the commercial dynamics of the state, as well as the economic reactivation of the country,” commented Jorge Torres, vice president of operations for FedEx Express in Mexico.

FedEx has also signed an agreement with authorities in the state to support local SMEs, including with discounts of up to 40% for delivery services. The company already has similar agreements with regional authorities in other federal states.
