DHL, Official Logistics Partner of Formula 1®, has handed over the DHL Fastest Lap Award and DHL Fastest Pit Stop Award at the 2016 FORMULA 1 ETIHAD AIRWAYS ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX. Nico Rosberg was recognized for achieving six fastest laps, while Williams Martini Racing was honored for recording 14 fastest pit stops over the season.
This year marks Rosberg’s first entry into the history books as both the DHL Fastest Lap Award winner and winner of the 2016 FIA Formula OneTM Drivers’ World Championship. It is the second year that DHL has handed over the award to the crew with the fastest pit stops, with the Williams Martini Racing team demonstrating the most consistent performance and supporting the on-track efforts of its drivers in 2016.
“It is a nice bonus to receive the DHL Fastest Lap Award 2016 at the end of an incredible year. We have been fighting for the win at every race this season and the fact that I have scored the most fastest laps reflects the awesome job of the team building our incredible car. It has been the fastest car all year – and this award recognises that fact,” said Nico Rosberg as he received the prize.
The DHL Fastest Lap Award was introduced in 2007 and has since established itself as a Formula 1® tradition. The award honors the driver who records the fastest lap in the most races over the course of the season. Sebastian Vettel of Scuderia Ferrari holds the highest number of DHL Fastest Lap Awards with three, followed by Rosberg’s teammate Lewis Hamilton and Vettel’s teammate Kimi Raikkonen, both with two awards.
