UPS adds Brazil-Chile flights, expands Worldwide Express Freight service

UPS will strengthen its international air cargo transport service in South America’s ‘Southern Cone’ by launching flights from Brazil to Chile via Argentina, and is expanding its Worldwide Express Freight service to more countries in Central America and Eastern Europe.

The new flight will be operated with a Boeing 757-200PF from Sao Paulo’s Viracopos airport via Buenos Aires (Ezeiza) to Santiago. The return leg will be direct from Chile to Brazil, with onward connections worldwide through UPS’ international air network.

UPS said the new flight will allow it to offer greater capacity to the growing Chilean market, increase flexibility to manage flights, and better schedule reliability to meet customer needs.

“The addition of a UPS aircraft to Chile represents UPS’s confidence in the country’s continued economic development and commitment to better provide service to our Chilean customers,” said Alexandre Rodrigues, UPS general manager for Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay. “The new route provides us the opportunity to offer more options to consumers and facilitate trade between Chile, Argentina, Brazil and the rest of the world.”

In addition, UPS announced the second expansion this year of its UPS Worldwide Express Freight service, adding five countries in Latin America and three in Europe. The guaranteed service is designed for urgent, time-sensitive and high-value international heavyweight shipments – perfect for product launches, inventory shortages or equipment failure replacement parts – to 58 origin and 56 destination countries and territories.

The expansion adds eight new origin and five new destination countries. Countries adding origin service include: Bulgaria, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Romania and Serbia. Countries adding destination service include: El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama.

The service offers faster guaranteed palletized shipments, over 150 lbs. (70 kg.), in more lanes than any other carrier. Delivery is door-to-door and day-definite, with customs brokerage service included. Saturday deliveries are available to select U.S. and Canadian postal codes.

“At UPS, we continuously monitor the market place, and found a demand for our customers in Central America who were looking for a premium international air service to better conduct their business across various industries, including industrial manufacturing, healthcare, apparel and high tech,” said Jose Acosta, president of operations and public affairs, UPS Americas. “UPS Worldwide Express Freight service is fast, easy-to-use and our expertise in customs clearance along with our global air network ensures reliable, guaranteed deliveries.”

UPS Worldwide Express Freight service offers many of the same features as UPS Worldwide Express package service, including automated shipment preparation, online tracking and proactive notification technology. In addition, both express freight and package shipments are consolidated into one invoice.
