UPS has opened a new facility in southern Poland to boost capacity in response to strong export volume growth in the country.
The company yesterday opened a new package facility in Myslowice, close to Katowice and in the heart of the Wroclaw – Katowice – Cracow region in southern Poland. The larger centre and increased sorting capacity will allow UPS to help businesses in southern Poland reach their customers in the rest of the country, Europe and beyond.
The 11,000 sqm facility, which is more than triple the size of the previous facility, can sort up to 6,000 packages per hour with a state-of-the-art conveyor belt system. The building will also have parking positions for 170 package vehicles. Over 100 people will work in the building, which will also include a new customer call center.
The size of the investment in this new facility, which replaces a 3,180 sqm package facility in Katowice, was not disclosed.
“Poland is an important market for UPS and in the first quarter of this year we grew our export volume by more than 20%,” said Pavel Adamovsky, country manager, UPS Poland. “This investment demonstrates our long-standing commitment to helping our customers in Poland grow and connect to markets all over the world.”
Myslowice was selected as the location for this new facility by UPS because of its proximity to many business distribution centers that serve the whole country as well as Katowice airport, where UPS has invested in additional air cargo capacity.
As of April 3, Katowice is connected to UPS’s European air hub in Cologne by a B737-300 jet operated by ASL Airlines. This aircraft provides UPS a 25% increase in cargo capacity over the two daily turboprop aircraft it replaced.

In November 2016, UPS announced an expansion of Express services to 25,000 postal codes across Poland, offering earlier time-definite deliveries. Improvements to UPS’s ground network since mid 2016 have also improved ground shipping times from Poland to 27 European countries, saving customers shipping with UPS Standard™ up to one day of transit time.
Furthermore, UPS opened a $20 million package sorting facility in Stryków and a business services center in Lodz in September 2015.
