PostNord has launched a new delivery service in partnership with ASSA ABLOY, a specialist in door opening solutions, enabling online shoppers to receive their parcels inside their front door when they are not at home.
The pilot project has been initiated with e-retailers Jollyroom, Apotea and Komplett, and 100 households in Lerum, a town east of Gothenburg, trialling the delivery option.
The “in-door deliveries” are made possible through a single-use code sent to the delivery person to open the front door of the recipients.
To use the service, customers need to select the option “home delivery” when purchasing items online from any of the e-retailers participating in the trial. Then they approve the delivery via their smartphone, i.e. whether it can take place in a selected time window. If they choose home delivery inside the front door, PostNord’s driver automatically receives a single-use code for opening the front door.
When the driver has placed the parcel inside the door, the code becomes invalid. The recipient is then notified that the parcel has been delivered.
According to the E-barometer Annual Report 2016, almost one in four Swedes wants to have their e-commerce items delivered this way, PostNord explained.
“It should be simple and convenient to shop online. This is why we want to give consumers greater choice and the opportunity to receive their e-commerce items in several different ways. We’re seeing a clear trend and a demand for greater choice on delivery, and we’ll now be able to deliver items inside the front door in a secure way. The recipient doesn’t need to be at home or be available at a particular time, which makes it both simple and convenient. Our ambition is for PostNord to deliver items in the way that best suits the recipient,” Johan Hellman, Head of eCommerce at PostNord, said.
Kristoffer Wadman, Director Business Development at ASSA ABLOY Scandinavia, commented: “We’re seeing great demand from both companies and households for greater choice and solutions that make daily life easier. With new and innovative products, such as our Yale Doorman lock, our customers will have the opportunity to simply and securely avail themselves of different services without having to be at home themselves or available at particular times. Great potential lies in this type of collaboration.”
The delivery method is the latest of several options that PostNord has developed in line with customers’ demand for flexible delivery solutions and changes in consumption behaviour boosted by growing e-commerce.
