Lagermax builds new DPD Austria depot

Lagermax DPD depot in Radstadt, Austria

Lagermax DPD, a part of DPD Austria, is constructing a logistics terminal in central Austria to handle rising B2B and B2C volumes.

In August 2018 the company first started construction measures on the new parcel logistics center in Radstadt, which lies close to the north-south motorway between Salzburg and Villach.

The old depot location in nearby Flachau has reached its capacity limits. During autumn last year, up to 10,700 parcels were shipped daily on peak days and parcel turnover for delivery amounted to 12,500 consignments.

Now, with a total area of 15,100 sqm and an investment volume of €5.5 million, the modern logistics terminal in Radstadt is expected to offer ideal conditions for coping with the ever-increasing number of consignments.

Hall space measures 3,000 sqm with a total of 10 loading gates for outbound packages and furthermore, the new facility has a 1,000 qm unloading area with six unloading telescopes. Two of them are fully automatic and have adaptable ramps.

Additionally, Lagermax is investing in a new automated package conveyor system that considerably speeds up the parcel flow. The office space for administration and the central departments cover a total of 600 sqm.

Michael Eberl, managing director of Lagermax DPD, explained that the possibility of expanding in Radstadt was decisive for the change of location from Flachau as the old depot had already reached its limits.

According to Eberl, textile logistics products such as Fashionet and Primetime are handled at the new location. He also added that for five years the company has been looking for a suitable property. In the middle of Radstadt’s commercial area, with direct access to the Ennstal highway, the new depot location offers the possibility of extending the operation to 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

With the new building, the company wants to set the course for the future. Currently, the logistics company in Radstadt has about 60 employees and 58 tours a day supply the southern parts of Salzburg and parts of the Obersteiermark area.

In 2018, a total of 12.9 million shipments were handled at the four Lagermax parcel service locations, Obertrum am See, St. Veit an der Glan, Flachau and Sachsenburg, with rising tendency.
