DPD Germany integrates netID login button into its digital services

myDPD login via netID

DPD Germany is claiming to be the first parcel service worldwide to enable login via netID, an open single sign-on service, to provide convenient and data-secure online shopping throughout the whole customer journey.

As a partner to the European netID Foundation, DPD will allow netID registration through both the DPD App as well as in myDPD. Customers will profit from the applications’ abilities to combine many functionalities related to sending, receiving and returning parcels.

Without any additional registration being needed, everybody with a netID account – for example with WEB.DE, GMX or 7PASS – can log into the digital services provided by DPD and all other netID partners.

Furthermore, the netID’s open login standard focuses on the data sovereignty of each individual user and allows them to organize their accounts transparently and in compliance with data protection at any time.

According to DPD, netID regards itself as a reliable European alternative to US-dominated single sign-on offerings.

Michael Knaupe, Director Customer Experience & Communications at DPD Germany, explained: “The integration of netID helps us to make the use of our digital services even easier, safer and more transparent. Online shoppers also benefit from the fact that the entire customer journey can be accompanied with netID as the login standard: from placing an order with an online retailer to management of the delivery and the convenient return of the goods if necessary”.

Sven Bornemann, CEO of the European netID Foundation, added: “With the intelligent integration of netID into its logistics systems DPD is demonstrating the possibilities of an open, across-the-board standard. Beyond the mere login, companies can also integrate their fulfillment partners even more efficiently. At the same time netID partners can offer their customers smart new services.”

If registered users want to send parcels to Germany and other EU countries, they can simply pay for it via the DPD App or through myDPD. Furthermore, the digital package label can be used to send a shipment from a nearby parcel collection shop or request the collection of a package. A login with netID is all it takes.

Further functions provided by the DPD App and myDPD are the online issuing of a permanent deposit for parcels to be left at desired locations such as the garage, or the redirection of parcels to a freely selectable parcel shop.

Thanks to netID customers will additionally no longer have to register in participating retailers or put in delivery data, because the information can now be stored directly in the checkout if desired. Very soon it will also be possible for logged-in netID users to switch from other websites to the DPD applications.

The European netID Foundation was founded in March 2018 by the media group RTL Deutschland, ProSiebenSat.1 and United Internet with the brands WEB.DE and GMX brands. The purpose of the foundation is to establish netID as a single sign-on that provides a European alternative to those of US providers.
