Retailers outgrow carriers in slow US parcel market

UPS, FedEx and USPS are steadily losing market share amid low volume growth in the US parcel market as big retailers such as Amazon, Walmart and Target insource more business to their own delivery networks, according to a new study by market researchers ShipMatrix.

In 2024, US domestic parcel volumes increased by 4% to a new record of 23.8 billion items, representing a 1.5x increase on the pre-pandemic level of 16.1 billion in 2019, the ShipMatrix study found.
