Vanderlande has been chosen to supply state-of-the-art sortation systems (built around line sorter technology) for two new PostNord parcel centres in Finland.
As part of its integrated production network, PostNord has decided to establish two new logistics centres in Finland. Both sites are ‘greenfield’ projects and will use Vanderlande’s line sorter technology.
The bigger facility will be in Vantaa, just outside of Helsinki, and is due to go into operation in the latter half of 2022. The centre’s capacity will be 9,000 parcels per hour, allowing PostNord to future-proof its operations. The sorting system will integrate other equipment such as infeed lines, a reject chute, weighing scales, belt extendibles, and a system to handle ‘non-conveyables’.
The other centre will be in Tampere, about 200km north of the Finnish capital, and is expected to be operational in the third quarter of this year. The Tampere centre will have a similar configuration with lower capacity of 4,000 parcels per hour.
“As we extend our coverage across the Nordic region, we proactively look for partners that can help to support our vision long into the future,” explained PostNord’s Category Manager Production Dušan Vujović.
“With the line sorter, Vanderlande offered a solution that precisely matched our expectations, and we were pleased that the same technology could be deployed at both sites in Finland. And with its local service presence, we see great value attached to Vanderlande’s overall proposition.”
The Dutch intralogistics company has installed parcel sorting systems for a wide range of clients, including UPS, DHL, FedEx and DPD, and says its systems “sort more than 48 million parcels every day” at different locations.
