Amazon plans lockers in Germany

Amazon Lockers for Germany?

Amazon is actively looking at introducing parcel lockers in Germany in competition to DHL’s Packstations and following their launch in the UK and France.

Bernd Schwenger, head of Amazon Logistics in Germany, told business magazine Wirtschaftswoche that the company is already testing lockers for staff at its offices and logistics centres across the country.

“We will soon decide whether we will also offer the Amazon Locker to our German customers,” he said. “We’re in close consultation with our supplier partners.”

Munich and Berlin, where the company now has its own delivery operations, could be the first two cities where the self-service parcel terminal would be trialled, he said.

Schwenger also confirmed that delivery partners such as DHL and Hermes are losing volume as the e-commerce giant rolls out its own delivery solutions. “In districts where we are (active), DHL is no longer delivering very much, perhaps only 10-15%,” he commented.

Amazon has already introduced lockers in the USA, the UK and France. DHL has some 2,750 ‘Packstations’ in Germany.
