Hurricane Commerce and Itembase announce strategic cross border partnership

Stefan Jørgensen

Cross border data specialist Hurricane Commerce has teamed up with e-commerce API integration platform provider Itembase to make selling internationally and meeting regulatory requirements easier for merchants.

The partnership leverages Itembase’s tech-enabled merchant connectivity platform with Hurricane Commerce’s cross-border data solutions covering duty and tax calculation and compliance screening for e-commerce transactions.

Hurricane’s Aura solution providing its landed cost engine, prohibited and restricted goods screening and denied parties screening and its Zephyr data enhancement tool are now available to customers globally via the Itembase platform.

“Peace of mind”

Itembase’s solutions connect line-item/SKU purchase data from merchants in real-time to value-adding applications, simplifying cross-border fulfilment. The firm, which was founded in 2011, enables merchants to onboard without IT development, to Hurricane Commerce, removing the need for development and data management services.

According to the two firms, the partnership gives merchants “peace of mind” when it comes to ensuring they have the right cross border shipment data and that it meets all compliance requirements.

David Spottiswood, Co-Founder of Hurricane Commerce, said: “The combination of Itembase’s platform and Hurricane’s suite of cross-border data solutions gives merchants the complete solution to power their global e-commerce and achieve true scalability.”

Stefan Jorgensen, CEO of US-based Itembase, added: “We are fundamentally changing the commerce market connectivity strategy that has been in place for the last 10 years by making things simple, cost effective and rapidly scalable. We are excited to welcome Hurricane to the Itembase platform.”

Partnership approach

The Itembase alliance is the latest in a series of partnerships announced by Hurricane Commerce this year as it seeks to strengthen its offering for cross border delivery.

The firm, which offers AI-driven, real-time data solutions covering the areas of data enhancement, duty and tax calculation, prohibited and restricted goods screening and denied parties screening, recently teamed up with the International Post Corporation (IPC), for example, to help its 25 postal operator members meet growing cross-border regulatory challenges.

Other recent partnership announcements include Swedish fintech Plusius, cloud-based global trade software provider AEB, delivery management platform Scurri, and cross-border e-commerce solutions provider One World Express.

Founded in 2016, Hurricane has established itself as the world’s leading cross-border data provider to delivery firms with customers including Royal Mail, An Post, Evri, Australia Post, SEKO, and Emirates Post.
