La Poste expects a new parcel volume record during this year’s peak season with growth of more than 11% to nearly 78 million parcels in November and December.
In comparison, the French postal operator’s parcels business Colissimo processed a total of 70 million parcels in November and December 2017.
On its busiest day this year, La Poste expects to process 2.8 million parcels, which would set a new record and exceed the 2.7 million parcels handled on its busiest day last year. The company normally handles about one million parcels a day during the rest of the year.
To be able to handle the seasonal increase in volumes, the French postal operator is strengthening its team with 3,000 additional staff who either have a fixed-term contract or have been hired on a temporary basis during the peak season.
In addition, La Poste has doubled the number of trucks on domestic routes with 500 more trucks per day deployed during the Christmas period.
