PostNord cuts Danish package delivery price by 18%

PostNord has announced that the price to send a private package in Denmark will decrease by 18% from January 2025 as part of the operator’s strategy to make PostNord the Danes’ preferred parcel supplier.

The post noted that the price of package delivery for private individuals will fall from 55 kroner to 45 kroner as of January 1. This applies to parcels up to 1kg.

“At PostNord we connect Danes with each other and with the world around them, and we want to make it as easy, convenient and attractive for Danes to send their packages with PostNord,” said Isabella Beck Jørgensen, Head of Press at PostNord. “We must be the natural choice for Danes, and this decision is part of that.”

The preferred parcel supplier

The decision to lower prices is part of the post’s Market Leadership initiative, which was introduced earlier this year. The initiative is focused on ensuring that PostNord is the first choice for customers in Denmark and the wider Nordic market.

“We already have a strong position in the parcel market but have further potential that needs to be fulfilled,” Jørgensen continued. “The Danes’ focus is on parcels, and this also applies from private person to private person or to company. That is why our focus is on the parcel market, where we work every day towards being the absolute best in parcels in Denmark and the Nordic region.”

Q3 results

The price cut comes after a stable third quarter performance for PostNord, with operating income totalling SEK 86 million, up from a slight loss of SEK 6 million in the same period of last year, while adjusted operating income (adjusted EBIT) amounted to SEK 104 million (versus SEK -6m).

Income improved through positive growth in the parcels business and lower depreciation costs in Denmark, the group explained. In Q3, parcel volumes increased by 1%.

The Q3 results meant that overall PostNord’s income has improved for the fourth consecutive quarter. This is thanks, in part, to the Market Leadership initiative and the post’s Cost Leadership program, which aims to raise the level of structural profitability by improving efficiencies within terminals and transport.

PostNord’s focus on parcel services follows changes to the Danish Postal Services Act, which saw the end of the USO on January 1, 2024.
